Cloth Diapers and Cute Headbands

I didn't want to bore anyone with my post about cloth diapers, I know sometimes I'm overly excited about things that other people just don't give a rat's booty about, but since there were questions I'm going to assume I'm not the only one crazy about cloth diapers and expand a little on the subject.

I have two BumGenius All-In-One, One Size Pocket diapers. Quite a name, but don't let it scare you. The diaper comes with a waterproof cover and a "soaker pad" that slips into a pocket at the back end of the diaper. It has snaps in the front that let you adjust the height as your baby grows, so no need to buy different sizes. The diaper fastens at the top with two hook and loop tabs (velcro). What I love about this diaper is that it's one size fits all. I have it set on the smallest setting right now and it's a great fit for my 11 pound 2 month old. What I don't love about this diaper is the velcro tabs. Yes, they're a little more flexible with sizing that snaps would be, but I have a feeling they're not going to last quite as long as snaps would. And if Paige grows up and figures out how to undo the velcro.. well, we're in trouble!

I have one FuzziBunz diaper, which is also all-in-one (cover and soaker pad insert). Over all it's the same as the BumGenius, but it's a small size (so she'll eventually outgrow it) and it has snaps instead of hook-and-loop. It's not as bulky though, since it's not adjustable to all sizes. I like less bulk, but I don't think I'd invest in a size small if it meant I had to do it all over again with the medium. I'm here to save money, not spend more! (I know, even if I did buy a whole set of small and a whole set of medium, I'd still save money compared to disposables, but I'm a bit of a cheapskate bargain shopper)

The Bubele Bums brand is somewhat adjustable, but it seems to be the biggest. The legs holes just aren't tight enough to make me want to buy more of them. Maybe once her legs are bigger they'll be a perfect fit, but until then I'm a little nervous taking her out of the house in one. It has a minky fabric on the outside (so cute and soft) and a liner that I fold in thirds to get the most absorption out of it.

Overall I think the BumGenius is my favorite, but I would like to try the FuzziBunz One-Size. They are adjustable in the elastic around the leg instead of the snap down feature on the BumGenius.

As for washing the diapers, I throw them all in the washing machine and run a cold rinse cycle. Since Paige is completely breastfed, the poopy diapers rinse off like yogurt. Once she's eating solid food, I'll have to dump the soiled diapers in the toilet before putting them in the washing machine. After the cold rinse, I wash them in hot water with a small amount of detergent, and finish with another cold rinse. They go in the dryer on a low heat, but once I have a bigger supply I'd like to hang them on a clothes line just to avoid breaking down the fabric too much.

Oh yeah, cute headbands.. I've noticed Paige is wearing a headband in just about every picture I take of her. She's a girl, why not have a headband for every outfit? Well, the cute headbands need to come off during nap time because THIS is what happens in her sleep:

It has happened more than once..

I walk by her room and peek in to check on her, and that is what I see.
Apparently she flails her arms up to stretch and pulls the headband down when she falls back to sleep.
Cracks me up. Poor baby has no idea.

  2. Haha! Too cute! I love it! Thanks for sharing info about the cloth diapers. I'm definitely interested in learning as much about them as possible before my little boy gets here! :)
