I've FINALLY finished a project I started weeks (ok, maybe months) ago for my Little's bedroom. It really doesn't take that long, I just never got started on it once I had my supplies. I had seen the idea on a blog when I was pregnant and searching for nursery ideas. Not only did I love the look of the project, but the DIY-ness and the you-don't-have-to-spend-a-fortune-ness was definitely appealing to me, my crafty personality, and my "skinny" bank account. I am so happy with the way it turned out, I'm trying to think of a not-too-cheesy way of doing a version of it in the living room or master bedroom!
So, since I'm so thankful for other bloggers who have shared their awesome ideas and provided wonderful tutorials (pictures included), I decided to give back a little and photograph my steps with this project. Maybe somebody out there will be as excited as I was when I stumbled upon this adorable idea.
So here we go!
Supplies: hot glue gun & glue, an embroidery hoop, scissors, and a piece of fabric.
Loosen the screw on the hoop and separate the two pieces.
I wanted a white "frame" to show, so I painted the outside hoop white.
You don't need to paint the smaller inside hoop because you're not going to see it.
Lay your piece of fabric on top of the "inside" hoop.
Place your "outside" hoop on top of the fabric and around the "inside" hoop
and push down so that the fabric is held in place, then tighten the screw.
Flip the whole thing over..
..and hot glue around the inner hoop, one small section at a time.
Before the glue has time to dry, pull the fabric over and press down.
This will keep the fabric stretched between the hoops.
Continue gluing and pressing down the fabric until you've gone all the way around.
Then you can cut the extra fabric off.
It doesn't have to be perfect, this side won't be seen once it's hanging on your wall.
And VIOLA! An easy peasy piece of pretty fabric in a circle frame.
..and before you know it, you have TWO.
..and if you're anything like me, you'll have a whole stack of em before the day is through!
I ended up with eleven of them. I will be hanging them all in a little cluster on her wall. As soon as I get them up I'll post a picture of the final product!
PS- Most of the fabric I used was on sale, or they were scraps from other projects (or they were cut out of a homemade table runner from my best friend's wedding). The embroidery hoops were 99 cents for the smaller sizes and up to $1.99 for the larger sizes. I already had a hot glue gun, glue, and white paint. So all together this project was well under $20, and it took me less than an hour to make. Now do you see why I wish I could decorate every room with embroidery hoops??
I think I need to make some too! I still wish I could have gotten those ones from work...but honestly, yours are sooooo much cuter! It worked out for the best.
